2019 Inferno Race is Scheduled for April 13

Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire – Friends of Tuckerman Ravine, a locally-based non-profit organization, is proud to be staging the 18th Annual Tuckerman Inferno Pentathlon race event on April 13, 2019. Over 200 athletes will compete for prizes and a chance to become the next Tuckerman or Tuckerwoman champion.

For 2019 we are introducing two new special discount categories to encourage more racer registrations. The first major discount announcement is in recognition of the gender wage gap in the United States.

All individual Elite Women and the All Women Sport Teams will receive a 20% discount off of the base race registration fee.

We are also introducing the inaugural COLLEGIATE division (solo & teams), which will also be discounted 20% when uploading proof of a current student college ID.

You will note that when you choose a Race Division and Team Category your race registration fee subtotal should automatically reflect these discounts.

Otherwise the full race registration fee is $300 for individual Elite racers and $750 for Sport teams composed of 2-5 team members.

The following groups will receive a 10% discount off the base registration. The team captain will need to show proof that s/he qualifies for the discount:

  • EDUCATOR (primary and secondary schools)
  • MILITARY (active duty and veterans)
  • SKI INDUSTRY EMPLOYEE (resort employee)
  • FIRST RESPONDERS (Fire, EMS, Police, Search & Rescue volunteers

These other discount categories do not apply on top of the gender wage gap and collegiate discounts.

Finally, we have added a MASTERS division to recognize those athletes 50 years of age and older (as of April 13, 2019) competing in the Tuckerman Inferno. We don't have a discount bracket for Masters racers but hope to offer some special prizes at the awards ceremony in that category.

The Tuckerman Inferno Pentathlon, based on the original American Inferno ski races of the 1930’s, now consists of an 8.3-mile run, a 6-mile kayak race down the Saco River, an 18-mile bike race north through Pinkham Notch, and a 3-mile run/hike up the Tuckerman Trail to Mount Washington's Tuckerman Ravine. The final leg is a climb up the ravine wall and a ski down a designated giant slalom alpine ski route. Conditions permitting, skiers will finish at the AMC base at Pinkham Notch.

Spectators are welcome at any and all transition points. At the conclusion of the race, teams will gather at the Wildcat Mountain base lodge for an awards banquet, prize giveaways and a silent auction fundraiser.

Friends of Tuckerman Ravine is a locally-based, member-supported, non-profit organization that seeks to preserve and protect the unique alpine and subalpine eastern slopes of Mount Washington; and to work in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service to sustain the traditional uses of the distinctive natural area. Memberships start at $25 per year for students and $35 for individuals.

The group also hosts trail maintenance work days throughout the seasons. Volunteers interested in helping out with this year's Friends of Tuckerman Ravine Inferno Pentathlon or any trail maintenance days are encouraged to call or email with questions.
